Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. Today I’d like to share with you my current makeup routine that has kept my acne prone skin under control. My acne journey actually began fairly recently. I was lucky enough to be acne free for most of my teenage years, and it was not until my 20s that I found myself having to seek out acne products at the drugstore. Now I can say after hundreds of dollars and countless products, I am finally acne free thanks to this routine. Here are some great products to incorporate into your makeup routine to look great and fight acne.

Deep Clean

The most important step in my routine of course is to cleanse. As someone with very oily skin, I often times wear heavy duty long wear makeup, and if not properly removed, it can clog the pores and cause breakouts. The Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush has been a life saver for me. It effectively removes my makeup and leaves my skin soft and smooth. I use it with the Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Facial Cleanser, and once I am done, my face is so clean I often times skip the toner. You can find the Clinique Sonic System Cleansing Brush at Sephora, Macys and Nordstrom for $89.50. The Neutrogena Naturals Cleanser is available at most drugstores and Ulta for $5.99.

Prep and Prime

For the most part, I have generally avoided using primers as a part of my makeup routine. Although I have tried primers that have greatly improved the wear of my makeup, I couldn’t help but notice the increase in breakouts after a long time of use. The Nyx Skin Elixir in Balance is ideal for acne prone skin because of the tea tree oil that controls oil production and clears acne. The texture is very creamy and it does not sit on top of the skin like primers I have used in the past. I apply it after my moisturizer and before my makeup. The Nyx Skin Elixir in Balance is available at Ulta and nyxcosmetics.com for $12.99.

Conceal, Conceal

Concealing has become one of my favorite steps in my makeup routine. Its perfect for adding extra coverage under makeup, or worn alone to achieve the “no makeup” makeup look. One of my favorite product discoveries of 2014 is without a doubt the Boo Boo Coverup Concealer. I received it in my Ipsy Glam Bag, and have been a loyal user ever since. I use it after my primer, to cover breakouts, and the tea tree oil and chamomile makes it an excellent spot treatment. I have found it to be excellent at both treating and preventing acne. The Boo Boo Coverup Concealer is available at Amazon for $20.00.
